VAU Push Subscribe service is a new channel that complements existing VAU methods such as batch, API, and Real Time VAU. It offers the advantage of speed and efficiency by proactively delivering credential updates (“push”) when they change, rather than requiring acquirers to request for updates.
The VAU Push Subscribe Service consists of Inbound and Outbound APIs available through the Visa Developer Center (VDC) for acquirers/processors.
These APIs are available to support any acquirers enrolled in VAU. The service is optional and available to any acquirers/processors operating globally.
Components of Push Subscribe Service:
1. In-Bound Bundled Name: Visa Account Updater subscription API.
2. Out-Bound Call back API:
Retries: When a client’s system is not reachable, the VAU Push Subscribe Service will attempt retries every 4 hours for a period of 7 days. After retry period is over, the client should re-subscribe to receive the latest update.
Visa Account Updater VAU Push Subscribe Service can be used by the developers in the sandbox supporting acquirers or processors who are enrolled in VAU. The developers can download the test cases from the project dashboard within Assets.
To access the APIs in production, acquirers must be enrolled in VAU and provisioned with a VAU Segment ID. The API request will be validated with the segment id to ensure only valid acquirers or processors be able to use the service.
NOTE: The test cases contain possible use test cases using sample PANs and can be used in the sandbox as is. Please reach out if you have any specific requirements that is not covered by the test case.
All Visa Account Updater programs in production require the originator to be a licensed Visa issuer/processor or acquirer or be sponsored by a licensed Visa acquirer who is ready and able to sponsor Visa Account Updater programs.
The APIs are available for use by developers in the Sandbox. Developers can download the test cases from the project dashboard within Assets.
To use in Production you must be pre-approved by your issuer/processor or acquirer and Visa. The approval process is available as part of Production Onboarding. Use of the APIs is subject to the use restrictions and other terms and conditions set forth in the applicable agreement. Contact Visa for pricing and commercial details to use in Production.

For VAU product, please reach out to your Visa representative for more information. For further information on APIs, contact [email protected].
Acquirers and processors can use Unsubscribe API to unsubscribe to a list (1-100) of cardholder PANs.
The VAU Subscription Inquiry API enables clients to check the subscription status of PANs. It returns whether the PAN is "Subscribed" or "Not Subscribed," or provides error codes and messages if any issues are identified.
The Client Outbound (callback) API will enable VAU to transmit PAN updates to the client whenever a subscribed PAN is updated in VAU.
Note: Participation in Visa Account Updater is highest in the U.S., Canada, UK, Ireland, Italy and Greece. Outside these markets, issuers are advised to speak to their Visa representative about VAU adoption in the countries where they operate, before deciding whether to test/deploy the API.
