Getting Started

About

By connecting to the VETD API, third-party data providers may pass transaction data and cardholder information to Visa prior to authorization in real-time. Visa then passes select data to issuers via the Visa IDX mechanism by including it in Field 34 and/or Field 56 of the ISO 8583 authorization message. Issuers can use this data to detect more fraud and approve more legitimate transactions, thereby enhancing their authorization decisioning strategy in real-time.

Audience

The VETD API is intended for third-party data providers, including payment service providers and fraud prevention providers. This may include, but is not limited to, non-Visa entities that collect, aggregate, distribute, and leverage cardholder and transaction information to perform authentication and/or risk assessment in CNP environments.

Prerequisites

Third-party data providers that wish to use the VETD API must met the following prerequisites:

  • Register on VDC to obtain required credentials, including API keys.
  • Meet all guidelines regarding the Visa IDX Match Key, data security, encryption, API specification, and testing present in the Visa External Transaction Data (VETD) API Implementation Guide and the VETD API Reference specification on VDC.

Review the Visa External Transaction Data (VETD) API Implementation Guide for comprehensive guidance on connecting to the VETD API.
